australia day

27/01/2011

always one of the best days of the year. yesterday i spent most of it at ash moore’s party trying to do backflips in the pool. of course we had a bbq for lunch and listened to the hottest 100 counting down.

i then moved onto calan stephen’s place for the final 20 songs, another bbq, great company and all round good times.

a few surprises in the countdown, and a number 1 that was hard to get into, but overall a good top 100.

209 stations in one day

27/01/2011

on monday i travelled to every train station in melbourne via public transport. there are 209 of them. my friend andrew lorimer has wanted to do it for years and on monday it finally happened. andrew did an amazing job calculating the route and an even better job recalculating the route when metro ran late on a few services. we started in pakenham at 4.23am and finished in lilydale at 12.15am. 20 solid hours of riding the melbourne public transport system. it was quite the adventure! check out all 209 stations below (it only takes 3mins).

the beach

23/01/2011

i’ve spent the last two days at the beach, visiting friends and attending jimmy’s bucks party. i love the beach. i forgot how much fun it was diving into waves, bodysurfing, throwing things (balls, frisbees, etc) on the sand. why have i not spent more time doing that this summer?
with the heat wave coming around february/march these days, i suppose i’m only half way through the season. who wants to come with me to the beach over the next few months?

…oh, and speaking of jimmy’s bucks:

beers over the fence

8/01/2011

this last week our house decided to buy a bbq ($109 bargain from bunnings), and tonight we tested it out. we had a few friends around to help break it in and a great night was had by all. midway through the cooking, our neighbour (who we are yet to meet as we moved in just before christmas), popped his head over the fence and asked if we wanted some beer. he passed over three bottles and said “i’ve been trying to get rid of these for ages”, then he was gone. it was a bit bizarre. anyway, we are up three beers as a result and i might pop over tomorrow and introduce myself.
